It’s the Day after Thanksgiving, and all through the house
are leftover pies (what’s that about?)
I’m black friday shopping, been out since 4
I’m just so hungry I can shop no more
I need a quick bite, so I can be on my way
I see up ahead a bright red chick Fil a
it’s not the healthiest, says a far away voice
but 90/10 is ruined, and I’ve no other choice…

Who has been in these exact shoes? All the best black friday deals just happen to be in the midst of fast food and other restaurants. And shopping makes everyone hungry.

So, what’s the best way to handle it? Do you just chalk it up to another unavoidable red-tier “circumstance” like Thanksgiving was? Do you plan two red tier days in a row and deal with the backlash until Christmas? Is there a better way?

There might just be! Last week, we gave you some tips to stay the 90/10 course through Thanksgiving (see that blog here). In this follow on writing, we will give you some healthy black friday survival tips.

🎯 Tip #1: Plan Ahead

This tip is number one for a reason. It’s the most important. You’re already planning your black friday shopping strategies, so just add in healthy eating to your plan. Pre-pack a lunch and snacks and bring it with you. Scope out the best out-to-eat places before you leave, and plan your shopping around being in that area at lunchtime. (We like chipotle, but you can use our out to eat strategies just about anywhere!) Grab some green tier bread and make a turkey sandwich with leftover turkey breast, mustard, avocado, and lettuce. When you’re making your sweet potatoes for thanksgiving dinner, bake an extra one and keep it plain for Friday’s lunch.

🎯 Tip #2: Revisit Your Why

If you have your why written down, read it out loud to yourself before you go out shopping, so it’s fresh in your mind. If you can remember why you have the goals you do, it will be harder to veer off course.

🎯 Tip #3: Check in with the Community

Before you leave shopping, take a second and post in the group that you’re headed out into the “jungle of temptation” and you’ll need some extra accountability. Then read the comments throughout the day. We’ve got your back!

NOTE: The group is for our members only. If you aren’t a member, you can get a risk-free trial HERE (no credit card required) OR take advantage of our BLACK FRIDAY SALE.

🎯 Tip #4: Avoid the Layaway

Remember that a red tier treat, especially a sugary one, is not just a one-and-done withdrawal from your health account. It will launch you right back into the sugar addiction cycle, and that will take days or even weeks to get back out of. You’ll be paying for that splurge long after the enjoyment is gone.

🎯 Tip #5: Don’t forget about dinner

A lot of black friday shoppers will be out before dawn and back well after lunch. If you have a healthy dinner planned, that is at least one meal you can reward yourself with. Slow Cooker chicken noodle soup can be made with leftover turkey instead of chicken and you can let it simmer in your slow cooker all day while you’re out getting the best deals. (Hint: gather up all the ingredients except the meat in advance and freeze it. On Friday morning, add the frozen meal plus the leftover turkey to your slow cooker.
