We call these quick and easy sloppy joes “Snappy Sloppy Joes”. They’re made with real ingredients and take only a few minutes to put together.
The one ingredient that can trip you up in this recipe is ketchup. There are now several options that fit in the 90/10 guidelines though. Organicville makes a ketchup sweetened with agave that we have used for a while, but both Heinz and Best Foods make ketchups sweetened only with honey now!
Ingredients
Snappy Sloppy Joes
- 1 1/2 lb ground beef 90% lean or leaner
- 1 Tbsp bottled minced garlic
- 1 cup frozen diced onions
- 3/4 cup Ketchup with no added sugar
- 2 Tbsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp lime juice
- 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp oregano
- 6 each 100% whole grain hamburger buns with no high fructose corn syrup
Steamed Broccoli
- 1 bag frozen broccoli steam-in-the-bag
Instructions
Snappy Sloppy Joes
- Heat skillet over medium heat. Add beef, garlic and onions. Sauté 6-8 minutes or until beef is no longer pink and very little liquid remains. Stir in remaining ingredients (except buns). Stir well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Serve on buns.
Steamed Broccoli
- Steam broccoli according to package directions. Servings vary.
